Welcome to Microanalytics, the company that provides you with the instrumentation and analytical services you need to effectively solve problems involving flavors, aromas and odors.
Over the past 14 years Microanalytics has been utilizing
unique MDGC-MS- Olfactometry technology to resolve real-world,
crisis-driven problems related to off-odors and off-flavors. A
remarkable variety of these problems have been successfully addressed
during this time; ranging from off-aromas in foods and beverages to
malodors in consumer products, product packaging and human environments.
With respect to the latter category, a variety of malodor issues have
been addressed which relate to human environments.
These have included both residential, commercial and
industrial indoor as well as downwind outdoor (i.e. especially as
relates to high density confined animal feeding operations or CAFOs).
Although malodors are generally perceived as nuisances by the public the
economic consequences of an unresolved odor / flavor quality issue can
be devastating to a company competing for consumer acceptance. In many
cases we have been tasked with resolving problems which have reached
multi-million dollar economic impact levels. In a few of these cases we
have been engaged after a problem has escalated to a point where closing
the doors on a production facility has become a viable option.
Our approach to these types of investigations is based
upon MDGC-MS-O which is unique in that it integrates human sensory
assessment with instrument based electronic detection and odorant
identification. Utilizing this targeted and focused approach we are
typically able to isolate and prioritize the odorants emitted by a
target source, identify these odorants and trace them back to their
point of introduction in the product or environment. Looking back on the
hundreds of such investigations which have been successfully carried out
by Microanalytics investigators, these quality excursions have been
traceable to a wide variety of sources or process variables. A few these
definable cross-contamination sources have been; raw materials, plastic
containers, closure devices, label adhesives, printing ink components,
material handling components, storage environments, shipping
environments and process variables, to name just a few.
